"Dr. Seuss Wants You" and "Facing Prejudice"

The seventh annual collaboration begtween the UNI Center for Holocaust and Genocide Educaiton and the Grout Museum District is bringing two exhibits to the Grout Museum of History and Science. "Dr. Seuss Wants You," highlighting the political cartoons of Dr. Seuss that warned Americans of the growing threat of Nazi Germany, and "Facing Prejudice," which encourages viewers to examine, in a constructive, non-threatening way, the complexities of prejudice and stereotypes that reside in all of us.

Melding astonishing digital imagery with multi-disciplinary performance techniques in the use of music, dance, art, sculpture, digital media, computer technology, lighting and sound, FARFALLE (Butterflies) follows the life of the butterfly, from egg to caterpillar to butterfly. While seated on-stage, audiences will find themselves in an immersive, interactive environment and with special invitations to engage with the beautiful creatures of FARFALLE…

  • Lights remain on at a low level in the theater during the performance;
  • A reduction of strobe lighting or lighting focused on the audience;
  • Patrons are free to leave their seats during the performance;

This is the first in the Rural Schoolhouse Speaker Series.Be transported back to the era of the one-room schoolhouse in Iowa. Speakers will present the history of rural schools, the teaching and learning experience and how the school builidng was once the heart and center of the community.
