Diversity Colloquium: Strategies for Teaching Power and Privilege in the University Classroom

Wednesday, October 11, 2017 - 2:00 pm

T. Elon Dancy II, University of Oklahoma, will offer frameworks for thinking about (and acting within) systems of power as they shape teaching and learning in college classrooms. Specifically, the presenter will define intersectionality theory and discuss how this framework offers insight into complex systems, institutions (i.e., universities) and individuals. Next, the presenter will discuss the practices, tools and strategies that emerge when filtering pedagogy through an intersectionality framework. The presentation will end with audience dialogue and engagement.
