The Department of Physics will host the UNI/Area Education Agency 267 Regional Physics Competition, a series of five competitive physics events for students in grades 9-12. The competition stresses creativity and ingenuity as well as understanding of physics-related principles and is intended to stimulate interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Events include catapult, mousetrap car, toothpick bridge, soda straw arm and challenge problem. Regional winners and runners-up advance to the State of Iowa Physics Competition.

The UNI Suzuki School will present their bi-annual recital weekend. For more information, visit www.uni.edu/music/suzuki . This event is free and open to the public.

Saturday, April 1, 2017 -
1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

The goal of the Out of the Darkness Campus Walk is to raise suicide awareness and prevention as well as collect funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). The funds raised help create educational programs, develop research, advocate for public policy and provide support for individuals affected by suicide. Registration and check-in will begin at 1 p.m. David Romano from Active Minds will speak at 2p.m. and the walk begins at 3 p.m.

Under the direction of faculty artist Kevin Droe, the Spectrum Project will present a spring concert. For more on the project, visit www.spectrumproject.org

Thursday, April 6, 2017 -
5:00 pm to 8:00 pm

The Leadership Skills class will host an event to raise awareness on child abuse. There will be food, crafts and coloring. Staff from the Family and Children's Council will be available to answer questions. Free will donations will go to the FCC for child abuse awareness.

Tuesday, April 11, 2017 -
9:30 am to 12:30 pm

The Department of Physics will host the State of Iowa Physics Competition. Participating high school students qualified at regional competitions and represent the top teams from Area Education Agencies across the state. The competition is a series of five events that stress creativity, ingenuity and an understanding of physics-related ideas and is intended to stimulate interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Events include catapult, mouse trap car, toothpick bridge, soda straw arm and challenge problem.

The UNI Suzuki School will present the spring Northern Iowa Junior Orchestra concert. This event is free and open to the public.

The UNI Children's Choir will offer its spring concert. This event is free and open to the public. 

Monday, May 1, 2017 - 7:30 pm

The New Horizons Band will offer its spring concert. Under the direction of Diana Blake, the New Horizons Band features musicians 55 and older who travel from all over Iowa. This event is free and open to the public.

Sunday, May 14, 2017 - 2:00 pm

The UNI Suzuki School’s Northern Iowa Youth Orchestra will host the Cedar Falls Community Orchestra in a shared concert. For more information, contact Cathy.Craig@uni.edu

Sunday, May 21, 2017 - 4:00 pm
