American Red Cross Certifications

Group Certification Program

Private group classes will be offered for most courses through WRS. The minimum number of participants is six. Classes can be held at the WRC or at your location on campus. To schedule a class please call Rachel Cook in the WRC office at (319)273-7263.

Registration: WRC 101 or My Universe. For non-UNI affiliates, please email certifications@uni.edu, or call 319-273-3972.
Payments: Fees must be received prior to class to complete registration.
Refunds: To receive a refund you must cancel your class within seven days of the class start date, a $5 processing fee will be charged.
Preparing for Class: Please bring paper and a writing utensil to take notes during class.
Course Books: Enrollment fees cover all book rental costs. You will have access to the online course book after completion of the course. Life guarding and Water Safety Instructor courses include a course book.
Class Size: The minimum enrollment size is 6 participants.
Waiting Lists: If a class is full, a waiting list will be available. If a student drops out of the class, individuals on the waiting list will be notified.


Graduation Requirements for Specified Majors

Leisure Youth and Human Services Majors as well as Physical Education Majors must complete
certification training before graduation in the following:

Students going into the following fields are recommended to have First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Bloodborne
Pathogens: Preventing Disease Transmission
certifications:

  • Teaching
  • Youth Work
  • Elder Care
  • Nursing
  • Military Service
  • Recreation Programming
Camp Adventure Participants

Camp Adventure students must complete certification training in one of the following options:


Certification Validation Periods
All CPR/AED, Lifeguarding, and First Aid certifications are valid for two years from the completion date.

Bloodborne Pathogens Training - 1 year
WSI – Must teach at least one class during two year authorization period and complete online knowledge check via the Red Cross to keep certification current.
