Alcohol & Drug Abuse

If you have ever wondered whether your alcohol or other drug use is excessive, UNI has many resources that can help. Signs of a potential problems include increasing tolerance, lowered academic performance, trouble with friends, family, school authorities or the police, guilt about your use, previous attempts to cut back, and failing to meet obligations and responsibilities.

To get a better picture of where you are now, you can begin by confidentially speaking with our Substance Abuse Services Coordinator, Mark Rowe-Barth. He can be reached at (319) 273-3423. He can also connect students with other helping services, including the UNI Counseling Center and the Student Health Clinic.


Healthy Eating & Eating Concerns

Eating is one of life’s greatest pleasures. However, with the worry about appearance, weight gain, food related illnesses and change in eating environment it is not unusual to experience eating concerns while being at college. Personal Training

Personal Training is a results-driven exercise program designed specifically for you. Your personal trainer will motivate you and provide the direction necessary to reach your individual physical health and wellness goals. Contact Kristy Leen, Personal Fitness Coordinator.

Wellness Mentoring

If you would like one-on-one or small group consultation, advice, and support to change a habit, make a lifestyle change, or address an issue of concern (eating, stress, tobacco-use, balancing work and personal life, etc.), our professional staff members can help. The primary focus of our department is student wellness, thus this service is provided to currently enrolled students for free. Additionally, we provide this service to faculty and staff for a fee (see Employee Pricing Guide below). Contact Mark.Rowe-Barth@uni.edu, or call 319-273-3423, for details.

We are willing to work with students, faculty and staff based upon what might be most helpful for them to achieve their wellness goals. For example, later sessions may be broken into shorter sessions as mutually agreed to by the patron and wellness professional staff members.
Please NOTE: the Intuitive Eating Workshop fee is $25 for students and $35 for employees.


Violence Intervention Services

Violence Intervention Services provides an array of services to victims of sexual violence, relationship violence, stalking and harassment. All Violence Intervention services are confidential and free of charge. Whether you are a student seeking help for yourself or a friend, or a faculty or staff member concerned about a student you know, please contact Violence Intervention Services for assistance.

On-line Screening

ULifeline offers students a mental health screening tool, information about mental health issues geared towards you, and resources for learning more and getting help. Screening options include alcohol and drugs, depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, suicide, stress, cutting and more.
