Constitution

 

This organization shall be named Muchas Manos Light Work.  It will be organized as a 501c Non-Profit organization.

 

    I.      Mission

The mission of Muchas Manos Light Work is focused on providing financial aid and educational assistance to the Matagalpa Region of Nicaragua. 

 

II.      Vision

The vision of Muchas Manos Light Work is that a diverse group of people will work together to benefit the Matagalpa community in Nicaragua to help sprout the seeds of learning, helping and giving to something greater than ones own self. 

 

Two different programs support the vision of Muchas Manos Light Work.  The first purpose will provide scholarships for worthy individuals seeking a higher education who demonstrate financial need.  The second purpose is to mentor, tutor and to provide hands-on experiences by members of Muchas Manos Light Work and affiliate organizations. 

 

III.      Membership

Anyone wishing to be a member must be actively involved, pay dues regularly and have a true interest in helping the people in the Matagalpa region of Nicaragua.

 

IV.      Dues

Dues are to be paid once per year.  Persons who are current students of the University of Northern Iowa will pay $10 and all other persons who wish to be members will pay $30.

 

   V.      Officers

President      

Responsible for running meetings according to Robert’s Rules of Order.  The president is to guide the organization according to the vision and mission laid out in this constitution and to further the long-term goals of this organization.

 

Vice President         

Conduct meeting in the absence of the President and to oversee all the officers in this organization.

 

Secretary

Responsible for taking meeting minutes and providing these to all members.  This person should record all internal communications of this organization.

 

Domestic Public Relations

Facilitates communications from this organization to all outside parties within the United States.  This officer will represent this organization to all interested outside parties and will work with the Nicaraguan Public Relations officer as needed.

 

Nicaraguan Public Relations

Facilitates communications from this organization to all outside parties within Nicaragua.  This officer will represent this organization to all interested outside parties and will work with the Domestic Public Relations officer as needed.

 

Financial Director

Shall conduct all financial business and maintain appropriate financial records.  Must give a report of all financial matters at each meeting for review by the members.  To coordinate all fundraising activities with this organization.

 

Scholarship Directors

Shall consist of two directors who shall be responsible for development of all scholarship materials to include the purpose of the scholarship selection criteria, the formulation of the scholarship form and the current and future goals of the scholarship program.

 

VI.      Funding

This organization is primarily funded through donations from outside sources.  Dues are paid to help facilitate the goals of this organization. 

 

VII.      Meetings

Meetings will be organized by the president and should meet at least once per month.  Selection of meeting times and location will be the responsibility of the President. 

 

VIII.      Procedures

Meetings will be run by Roberts Rules of Order.  Voting will be decided by a majority vote of the members present.  Quorum is established when there is a simple majority of all members in the organization present at the meetings.  When quorum is not met, business can be discussed, but may not be voted or acted upon until quorum is established. 

 

Elections: Once per year there shall be elections in September.  Officers will be elected by a majority vote of the members present with quorum and will hold office for a one year term.  Newly elected officers will take office at the next meeting after election.  Officers are allowed to consecutively run term after term and no officer shall hold more than one office at a time.   Previous officers should facilitate a smooth transition by reasonably preparing his or her successor for their position.

 

Any officer lacking in his or her responsibilities will be asked to step aside and the vacant position will be appointed by the president.  If the president is lacking in his or her duties a new person will be appointed by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the officers.

 

IX.      Amendments

Amendments to this constitution are to be made by two-thirds (2/3) vote of the entire membership of this organization.
