Cyber Security Awareness Month
October is Computer Security Awareness Month. The ITS Security office is promoting CSAM in several ways this year.
- A short video provided by Securing the Human, the awareness group at SANS.
- Another short video provided by StopBadware.org.
- A short e-learning course via Blackboard.
Visit the UNI eLearning site at https://bb9.uni.edu, login with your CatID username and passphrase, and find the course "ITS-Security: Securing the Human security awareness training" in the My Courses tab.
This high-quality video course takes a bit more than a half-hour to view and covers 20-some computer security topics that are mostly very relevant to your computer, network, and internet use at UNI. If you need to stop in the middle of the video, Blackboard will remember where you were and start again at the spot where you left off. A quiz at the end of the video lets you assess how well you understood the material that was presented.
I encourage you to take this short course. All full-time UNI employees should be enrolled and able to participate. It is my hope that you will take the time and that the effort will be rewarded by a more knowledgeable community that will be less susceptible to the many pitfalls on the internet today.
Please note that this course is produced by SANS for a generic organization. Not all of the modules have a direct and specific relationship to UNI, but most are relevant.
