Mailserv Listguide

As a MAILSERV list owner, there are four things that you *can* do with your lists (replace "MYLIST" with the actual name of your list):

  1. Add subscribers to it
    1. Send a mail message to mailserv@uni.edu where the body contains a message similar to:

      SUB MYLIST user@host.domain
      SUB MYLIST anotheruser@host.domain
      END

    2. The address(es) *must* contain an @ or MAILSERV will think you are trying to subscribe yourself with a personal name. - For UNI faculty/staff addresses, it should be their e-mail alias, i.e., First.Last@uni.edu - For UNI student addresses, it should be their userid, e.g., jonesa12@uni.edu
  2. Remove subscribers from it
    1. Send a mail message to mailserv@uni.edu where the body contains a message similar to:

      UNSUB MYLIST user@host.domain
      UNSUB MYLIST anotheruser@host.domain
      END
    2. The address(es) *must* contain an @ or MAILSERV will unsubscribe *you* from your list!
  3. See who is currently on it
    1. Send a mail message to mailserv@uni.edu where the body contains a message similar to:

      SEND/LIST MYLIST
      END
  4. See the names of the lists that you own
    1. Send a mail message to mailserv@uni.edu where the body contains these lines:

      DIRECTORY/LIST
      END

You may send multiple commands to MAILSERV in the same message. Enter them one per line, with the END command placed only as the very last command. If MAILSERV finds an error in any line, you will be so notified and processing of all further commands sent will be aborted.
