Eco+House Exhibit

Eco+House Exhibit

Wednesday, March 30, 2016 - 12:00 pm to Sunday, May 15, 2016 - 4:00 pm

Eco+House is an interdisciplinary eco-art course aiming to creatively build environmental awareness and  positive change. This eco-active exhibition highlights each student’s research into a chosen ecological issue and its impact on the local community. The students have turned statistics, graphs,interviews, fieldwork and personal interactions into a range of works that cross art disciplines and engage with the audience in powerful, surprising and touching ways.   

This exhibition has been created by spring 2016 EcoHouse students in partnership with the UNI Museum and UNI CARES. The inaugural performances will occur from noon to 3 p.m., in Maucker Union, and at 3:30 p.m. in the UNI Museum, Wednesday, March 30. Performances and participatory works will be scheduled throughout the exhibit’s duration.

Green Project will host a recycled art display. Members compiled a series of art meant to promote environmentally-friendly thinking. Each piece of art symbolizes a facet of our natural world that is impacted by human activity, which in turn is represented by a string of trash bags that is interwoven throughout the display.

Anne Frank: A History for Today is an educational experience for all ages. Examine World War II and the Holocaust through the perspective of Anne Frank. Learn about the dangerous consequences of intolerance for all communities. The narration and imagery of the exhibition serve as inspiration to take action to understand intolerance. Understand how indifference, acceptance and apathy destroy individuals, families, neighbors and entire communities. Anne Frank: A History for Today was developed by the Anne Frank House and is sponsored in North America by The Anne Frank Center USA.

From March 29 through May 28, visitors can also see the exhibit "Iowa's Ties to the Holocaust," which shares accounts and artifacts of a number of individuals with ties to Iowa, including GIs present at the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps and of Holocaust survivors who started life anew in Iowa

Normal admission fees to the Grout Musuem District apply.  Several events related to these exhibits have been organized.  For more information, go to:

Opening reception: April 25 at 7 p.m. The following students are pursuing Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in their respective emphasis areas and are exhibiting new artwork to fulfill graduation requirements: Justin D. Allen (photography), Kelly Ann Cunningham (graphic design), Elise Hanson (photography), and Bradley Kennedy (graphic design). All events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mon. through Thurs.; noon to 5 p.m., Fri. and Sat.; and by appointment.

Remember, we saw her first! Singer Emily West, who charmed TV viewers as a finalist in 2014’s America’s Got Talent, returns to her hometown to perform for her biggest fans! Emily has performed all over the United States, beginning in Nashville, and even landed on the US Country Billboard for her song “Blue Skies,” a duet with Keith Urban. Her latest album, produced by Sony Music Masterworks, is slated for release in August 2015. Give Emily a warm welcome as she begins her national tour.
