It is encouraged that campers live in residence halls on campus and eat their meals at the college dining center. Committed and attentive UNI music education students will guide campers as counselors supervising the halls and leading campers through daily activities. Day campers will be expected to be on campus for all scheduled activities (usually from 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m. each day)
Campers work alongside a diverse string faculty who teach and perform around North America. Focus is given to various areas of string playing each day through guided listening and musicianship seminars.
Private lessons are encouraged for all campers. Participants are encouraged to choose one hour of private lessons (broken into two 30-minute lessons during the week) at an additional cost of $40. Campers taking private lessons should bring a piece of music they have been working on.
All campers must bring their own instrument to camp.
Open to all string players in grades 6- 8 who have at completed at least one full year of study on their instrument, each day will be focused on improving basic string technique and understanding how to make music together through individual/group lessons, enrichment classes, and string ensemble.
The camp will culminate with a performance for all campers in the Great Hall of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. on July 13th. The performance is free and open to the public. All campers must participate in the final concert. DVDs of the concert will be available for purchase following the concert.
