Overview

Showcase on Educational Technology

The "Showcase on Educational Technology" is a state wide initiative of the Iowa Educational Technology and Training Institute (IETTI), the Iowa Department of Education and the Iowa Distance Education Alliance: Iowa's Star Schools Project. Each year the "Showcase" project features uses of technology in educational institutions in the state of Iowa.

Since 1995, PreK-12 schools along with higher education institutions have submitted application forms describing their educational technology projects. Over 1,400 applications have been received since the inception of the "Showcase" project. Each year application forms are sent to every educational institutional in the state. Educators are encouraged to complete the application by describing their uses of technology in their teaching and learning environments.

Each year the applications are compiled and all projects are included in a database.  Previously, booklets of the projects for each year were compiled and sent to all educational institutions in the state.  Since 1998, notebooks of all entries have been sent to the AEA's (Area Education Agencies) in the state for checkout to schools.   An electronic database of all Showcase projects has been compiled and linked (www.uni.edu/ietti/showcase) to the IETTI WWW page.  The electronic database is searchable and contains entries from the 2000-2001, 1999-2000, 1998-99 and 1997-98 "Showcase" projects along with (limited search) databases for 1995-96 and 1996-97.

Each year, all applications that are submitted during the application phase are reviewed by a panel. Twenty five projects are selected for their outstanding and innovative uses of educational technology. Those projects receive $1,000 each and also are featured in various seminars and workshops across the state.  The winners also participate in the Spotlight on Educational Technology day at UNI.  In the database, these 25 projects are referred to as "winners."

The "Showcase" project continues every year. If your Iowa school wishes to be included in the next database, you may complete an on-line application or contact the IETTI (see below) for an application.
