International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Why we observe

In November 2005 the United Nations General Assembly officially proclaimed January 27 as International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust.  January 27, 1945 marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

‌How we'll observe at UNI

UNI’s Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education (CHGE) is the only center of its kind in Iowa. The center will recognize International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a free webinar featuring Holocaust survivor and educator Sol Nayman. The online presentation, which will be held Thursday January 26, is free and open to the public.
