Faculty-led Program in UAE and India - Winter

Embark on an unforgettable journey to Dubai, “the pearl of the Gulf,” and experience a perfect blend of tradition and modernity in this awe-inspiring, larger-than-life city. Or, check off a bucket list goal by visiting one of the world's seven wonders, the ultimate homage to love – the Taj Mahal in India. How about taking a pic in front of Burj Khalifa (Dubai, UAE), the world’s tallest building, or Hawa Mahal (Jaipur, India), renowned as one of the world's most photographed monuments? 

The UAE and India offer unique insights into vibrant economies, diverse cultures, and rich histories, providing you with invaluable and unforgettable learning experiences beyond the classroom and provide you with an advantage when seeking career opportunities.

Students will study the Dubai/Abu Dhabi and Indian business environment. This includes each country's current state of affairs and the historical context of each country in the global economy. Course discussions will cover the historical and current economic and business environment, cultural influences, and more. Students will learn how to conduct business in the program locations and will gain awareness of the influence of culture on important aspects of living and conducting business.

Dr. Atul Mitra is not just fond of traveling, but it's his passion. He has visited over 25 countries to learn about their cultures, traditions, and cuisines by interacting with the locals. He has also conducted workshops and given presentations globally. For his latest research project, he teamed up with over 70 researchers from across the globe to collect financial incentives related data from over 30 countries. 

After his incredible experience as a co-leader (with Professor Connerley) for his first study abroad program to Greece in May 2022, he has developed a deep appreciation for UNI students’ true desire to learn and grow. As a result, he is excited to co-lead his second study abroad program to two culturally enriching countries (UAE - Dubai/Abu Dhabi and India - Mumbai/Agra/Jaipur).

Dr. Mary Connerley, a seasoned academic with extensive international experience, has played a pivotal role in fostering global connections for the Wilson College of Business. Her extensive travels, spanning over 35 countries, demonstrate her commitment to international education and cultural exchange. As a co-leader (with Professor Mitra) of the faculty-led program to Greece in May 2022, Dr. Connerley facilitated an enriching educational experience for students, allowing them to immerse themselves in Greek culture and business practices. Furthermore, her involvement in accompanying UNI students to countries such as South Africa, Russia, Poland, and Italy underscores her dedication to providing diverse learning opportunities. By exposing students to various cultural contexts and business environments, Dr. Connerley enriches their educational journey and equips them with a global perspective essential for success in today's interconnected world.

BUS 2100: Global Skills  (3 credit hours) 

  • This is a UNIFI: Human Condition Global course. It can also count as a UNIFI elective credit.

No prerequisites. All majors welcome. Participation in this program requires several class meetings during the fall semester, although the course is scheduled as a winter session course. The Study Abroad Center will enroll participants in the course. Please contact the program's course leaders for more information on academic requirements.

Students attending colleges and universities other than UNI are welcome to participate in this program. If you are not currently a UNI student, but would like to participate in this program, please contact the UNI Study Abroad Center prior to starting your program application.

‌Eligibility Requirements to Study Abroad

The Study Abroad Center reserves the right to determine participants' eligibility to study abroad. Students must have a completed study abroad application, including supportive recommendation form(s). Additionally, students must meet all of the following in order to be eligible to study abroad:

  • Have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher at the time of application and maintain this cumulative GPA prior to departure and throughout the study abroad process
  • If your cumulative GPA is lower than 2.5, submit the following to the Study Abroad Center (103 East Bartlett):
    • Letters of reference from two academic contacts (e.g. academic advisor and former or current professor) supporting your pursuit of study abroad. If you are attending a faculty-led study abroad program, one of the letters must be from a course leader. However, if the program has two course leaders, only one of the letters can be from one of the course leaders.
  • Must be over the age of 18 years old
  • Must meet the course prerequisites (participation in the program is dependent upon meeting these)
  • Must be in good standing with the university
  • UNI's partner institutions may require additional eligibility requirements to be met, these vary from institution to institution. Please consult with the Study Abroad Center staff to discuss these additional requirements, if applicable. 

  • Applicants traveling to a region of a country or a country with an overall Travel Advisory Level 3 (Reconsider Travel) or 4 (Do Not Travel) will not be eligible.
