Location
Auckland
Auckland is New Zealand's largest and most populated city. Built on a narrow isthmus, the city is located on the North Island of New Zealand, and is home to over 1 million people. Auckland offers all the advantages of living in a large, international city: diverse culture, arts, entertainment, festivals, and sports. The surrounding area is also full of numerous parks, reserves, black sand beaches, and rainforests, meaning there is always something to do or see inside the city, or right outside it!
Wellington (Welly)
Wellington, often referred to as "Welly" by the locals, is located on the southern-most tip of the North Island. Home to Parliament and the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa, it's easy to understand why this compact city is known as the cultural and political capitol of the country. This unique city is also known its quality of life. With a plethora of world class shops, galleries, restaurants, clubs and entertainment, Wellington consistently ranks high in the list of 'must-see' cities around the world.
Manawatū
The Manawatū campus is located in the city of Palmerston North (also referred to as 'Palmy' by the locals), and is home to the original Massy University campus. While this city is a bit smaller than the other two options, don't overlook it! This city offers a true taste of Kiwi culture with a friendly, young, and laid-back atmosphere and a great selection of cafes, pubs, and restaurants at a price the other two locations can't beat. There are many hidden treasures around Palmy such as uncrowded championship gold courses, live music all around town, and a host of adventures for thrill seekers.

Important information to review:
Study abroad is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be challenged by new experiences in new environments and cultures. UNI study abroad programs are designed to prioritize educational opportunities for students. Students are encouraged to embrace the adventure of exploring how housing, meals, and daily routines differ abroad.
Entry and Exit Requirements
Review and follow the travel recommendations of the U.S. State Department for travel to New Zealand.
Immigration Information
Students going to New Zealand will need to apply for a student visa.
Your Study Abroad Advisor and USAC will help you through this process but it is the student's responsibility to stay on top of the visa application process and to review the latest updates related to their destination country.
- Housing & Meals
All Massey accommodations are fully furnished and equipped with everything students needs to study, cook, and live. Housing and meal options differ between the three campuses. Please review the information below to understand what each campus does and does not offer.
Auckland
Students will have the option to live on or off campus in apartment style flats in Auckland. Apartments vary in number of bedrooms depending on the building they are placed in. There are also catered and self-catered accommodations, meaning students can list their preferences when applying for housing. However, their is no guarantee that students will get their top choice.
All off-campus flats are conveniently located close to campus, and offer many shops and amenities to provide a safe, semi-rural environment. Most of these options also offer a free shuttle bus service on week days during the semester to campus.
Wellington
Wellington offers three off campus accommodation buildings for visiting students. Students will have the choice between a studio room, or two-, three-, four-, or five- bedroom apartments. All accommodations are self-catered, fully furnished, and within walking distance of campus.
Manawatū
There are many different housing options on Manawatū's campus. Students can choose between a variety of on or off campus Halls, and opt for an individualized meal plan or choose to be self-catered. Because housing is more customizable based on students preferences and necessities, the price of housing here varies greatly to also meet a range of budgets.
- Internship Opportunities
Some visiting students may also qualify to participate in an internship for academic credit during their semester abroad in New Zealand. Through these opportunities, students will get to learn about the workplace culture, norms, and expectations, helping them to develop cross cultural understanding and intercultural communication. Internships are offered in both the spring and fall semesters.
In order to meet Massey's qualifications, students must be of senior standing, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and be majoring in business, management, marketing, communication, media, or journalism. Internships are available at all three campuses. Students can sign up for this option once they have been fully accepted into the program.
Internships in Massey's Office of Global Engagement are also available on the Manawatū Campus. With this internship, students will work closely with Massey's international partners on projects related to their study abroad and exchange programs.
