Pre-Medical
Interested in medical school? UNI is the place to start!
UNI can help you get on track to cover all the science and laboratory requirements needed for continued education in medicine or healthcare. Our graduates routinely have among the highest medical school placement rates in the Midwest, and even the nation.
It is important to keep in mind that the pre-medical track is not an academic major; rather, it’s a suggested program of study that prepares students to apply to professional school upon completing their undergraduate degree. Pre-med students can choose a major in any area.
Powerful
Partnerships
UNI's biology department has fostered outstanding partnerships with regional medical schools such as University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.
Pre-Medical
Club
The Pre-Medical Club offers students professional networking, job shadowing and employment opportunities, as well as access to admission staff at popular medical schools.
MCAT
Requirement
UNI will help students prepare for the MCAT, which is required for admission into medical school.
Common Pre-Medical Majors
Biology Major
The biology: biomedical major was designed to keep pre-med students on track to meet the most common requirements for medical programs and the topics for the MCAT. With most pre-med courses counting toward your UNI degree, this is an efficient pathway to prepare for medical school.
Biochemistry Major
A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biochemistry works well for students who are interested in drug development, dosage determination (pharmacokinetics) and toxicology. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) is excellent for students who are interested in becoming physicians, dentists and pharmacists.
Athletic Training & Rehabilitation Studies Major
As a pre-health major in athletic training and rehabilitation studies, you gain a solid foundation in classroom knowledge and clinical understanding that paves the way for advanced studies in multiple health professions.
