Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program

The Study Abroad Center is responsible for promoting Fulbright U.S. Scholar opportunities abroad to our UNI community.   We can guide you where you can explore opportunities for U.S. citizens to go abroad with the Fulbright Scholar Program. With more than 800 awards annually to 135+ countries, we can connect you with resources to find the right Fulbright for you.


The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program 2023-24 competition will open February 2022. The Scholar Program offers diverse opportunities for U.S. academics, administrators and professionals to reach, research, do professional projects and attend seminars abroad. Fulbright U.S. Scholar Awards

The Study Abroad Center will host their first Fulbright Scholar Workshop on November 15th at 3:30pm. Please read below to learn more and register.


Fulbright Scholar Workshop: Discover how you can make an impact abroad
Curious how you can conduct research, teach or carry out a professional project abroad? What about hosting international visitors here in the U.S.?  Join us to learn how the Fulbright Program provides opportunities to engage with partners abroad and internationalize your campus.  The Fulbright Program is the flagship educational and cultural exchange program of the U.S. Government, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Jaclyn Assarian, Outreach and Recruitment Specialist at the Institute of International Education will offer a workshop on the Fulbright Scholar Program for administrators, faculty members and professionals.

Topics covered in the workshop include:

  • Opportunities for teaching, research, and professional projects in more than 140 countries
  • Tips on how to craft a competitive application, including how to make contacts abroad and choosing the right country and award for you
  • Ways to increase your campus’s international profile by hosting a Fulbright Visiting Scholar through the Outreach Lecturing Fund and Scholar-in-Residence Program
